Bike Shed

This new bike shed in Brooklyn is built against the south side of a villa, in an unutilised part of the property.

The walls of this simple structure are clad with translucent fibreglass sheets and covered with macrocarpa facing boards which will silver off over time.

The translucent panels allow plenty of natural light in during the day while hiding the contents of the shed. The translucent form of the shed compliments the villa without dominating it.

The bike shed is highly functional, with direct, flat access to the car pad and street. The large door opens into a generous space where five or more bikes are easily stored, along with scooters and a car roof box. The bikes are stacked vertically, on Steadyrack bike racks which can swivel the bikes out of the way. A plug allows for an e bike to be charged.

The bike shed acts as a sort of garage for the property which otherwise only has room for a car pad, allowing for a highly efficient use of space for a reasonable budget.
